The beautiful KK - Kochi, Kerala

After our yoga retreat week in Goa (here you can read more about it), G&P decided to explore Kochi, a beautiful city located in the state of Kerala. We had heard that Kochi offered a different experience than the bustling cities of northern India, and we were excited to see what this charming city had to offer. During our stay, we settled in the historic Fort Kochi neighborhood and discovered a multitude of cozy cafes and restaurants to relax and unwind in.

What struck us the most about Kochi was the genuine kindness and warmth of its people, who made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Overall, our visit to Kochi was a welcome respite from the chaos of northern India, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and enjoyable travel destination.

Jew City in Kochi

Jew Town is a fascinating neighborhood located in the heart of Kochi, Kerala. This area was once the hub of the Jewish community in Kochi and is known for its historic buildings, traditional shops, and antique stores. Walking through the narrow streets of Jew Town, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of the area. One of the must-visit attractions in Jew Town is the Paradesi Synagogue, which is one of the oldest synagogues in India and is still in use.

We found an interesting art gallery in Jew Town.

There is still a small Jewish community living in the city today. However, the number of Jews has significantly decreased over the years, and the community is now made up of only a few dozen people. The Paradesi Synagogue, located in Jew Town, is still used for religious services by the remaining members of the community. The Jewish cemetery, located nearby, is also still in use. Despite their small numbers, the Jewish community in Kochi is proud of their history and heritage and has played an important role in preserving the culture and traditions of the community.

The clock tower in Kochi's Jew Town was built in 1760 and still stands today as a prominent landmark in the neighborhood, serving as a reminder of the area's rich history and cultural significance.

The spontaneous shopping at Kochi

Strolling through the small alleys of Kochi, we discovered a small cute but professionally decorated store with appealing clothing. Gabriela could not decide directly between two great dresses, so we walked on and came back to Suee after a few hours and bought both :)

Suee provides very sustainable production environments and every piece is represented by the hand-producing face behind, very nice concept.

There were a lot of other great shopping opportunities, but on such a long trip, we prefer lighter bags, only buying and sending the most critical pieces back home.
