Sigiriya, the impressive Lion Rock

The ancient capital of Sri Lanka was once placed on a 200m high rock, the Lion Rock. As the king died, his son took the throne, but at the same time, he was afraid of revenging attacks, so that he decided to build up his new palace on top of the Sigiriya Rock. Impressive with a terrace garden in front of the rock, the palace has a wonderful view over the countryside of the region!!! A must-be on Sri Lanka!!!

After a nice car ride and a local food lunch stop, some elephants in the middle of the national park drive-through, we arrived at the terrace garden of Sigiriya. As everywhere on the island, the monkeys said hello to us, as well as the crocodiles and a turtle in the garden’s pools.

If you are frightened of the number of steps up to the hill, switch off your thoughts and go ahead!!! It’s awesome on top of the rock!!!
