Our 8 days Yoga retreat in Goa, India - a new experience



Welcome to our travel blog post about our 8-day yoga retreat at Goa, India, located on the pristine beaches of this beautiful coastal state. Our yoga retreat was a perfect combination of relaxation, rejuvenation and adventure, all amidst the serene and tranquil setting of the Arabian Sea.

During our morning yoga sessions, we were delighted to see playful dolphins swimming and jumping in the distance, creating an enchanting atmosphere to start our day.


Our retreat offered a variety of yoga styles, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, and Ashtanga, led by experienced instructors who guided us through the practice and helped us deepen our mind-body connection. Thanks to Mirya, Judith, Helen and Andrew for these amazing experiences and thank you for your patient.


Our daily routine


We already made many yoga sessions, so we had our first touch with this special sports & relaxation for body and soul, thanks and greetings to Susi (check out lovelyyogasusi on Instagram). We lost the discipline a little bit lately, so it was the perfect environment as our vacation from vacation and we want to share our experience. Would be great to find the right balance at home to calm down, finding the right breath and giving our bodies a stretch. But we will definitely miss these great surroundings. It’s such a difference to calm down during meditation with the ocean singing in front of you. Therefore Goa is really a great place and we were lucky, it has not been that crowded (Team "out of season" :) ).


Along with yoga, we also indulged in local vegetarian cuisine (the food was truly delicious), explored the vibrant culture and connected with like-minded people. Join us on this journey as we share our experiences and memories from our yoga retreat at the stunning beaches of Goa.







Yoga is a very old discipline and thanks to teachers like B.K.S. Iyengar and many more, Yoga found it’s way around the globe. Reading some chapters of Iyengar made us understand why and how it happened:


B.K.S. Iyengar, the founder of Iyengar yoga, believed that the practice of yoga should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or physical condition. With this philosophy in mind, he developed a unique approach to yoga that emphasizes the use of props, such as blocks, straps, and blankets, to help students achieve correct alignment and improve their practice. Iyengar yoga also places a strong emphasis on the breath, which is seen as a key element in achieving mental and physical balance. In Iyengar yoga, students work to develop strength, flexibility, and endurance through the practice of various postures, or asanas, that are held for extended periods of time. By focusing on proper alignment and the breath, students are able to deepen their understanding of the practice and experience the full benefits of yoga. The principles of Iyengar yoga make it an excellent option for students of all levels who are looking to develop a strong foundation in the practice of yoga.

Thanks to a diverse agenda, we were able to get to know many different kinds of Yoga, we have listed each of them with a very short description:


  1. Hatha Yoga: A traditional form of yoga that focuses on postures (asanas) and breath control (pranayama) to balance the body and mind.

  2. Flow Yoga: A dynamic practice that involves linking breath with movement, creating a continuous flow of postures.

  3. Stillness Yoga: A slow-paced practice that emphasizes holding postures for longer periods of time, focusing on mindfulness and relaxation.

  4. Morning Slow Yoga: A gentle practice that helps to awaken the body and mind in the morning, with a focus on stretching and breathing exercises.

  5. Yin Yoga: A practice that involves holding passive stretches for several minutes, targeting deep connective tissues and joints.

  6. Ashtanga Yoga: A rigorous practice that follows a specific sequence of postures, focusing on strength, flexibility, and breath control.

  7. Relaxing Flow Yoga: A gentle and slow-paced practice that incorporates flowing movements and relaxation techniques to promote stress relief and relaxation.

  8. Detox Flow Yoga: A practice that combines postures and breathwork to stimulate the lymphatic system and support the body's natural detoxification processes.

  9. Restorative Yoga: A practice that involves using props to support the body in gentle postures, promoting relaxation and stress relief.

  10. Jivamukti Yoga: A dynamic practice that incorporates spiritual teachings, chanting, and music into a flowing sequence of postures.

  11. Gentle Flow Yoga: A practice that focuses on slow, gentle movements and breathwork to improve flexibility, balance, and relaxation.

  12. Vinyasa Flow Yoga: A dynamic practice that focuses on linking breath with movement, emphasizing fluid transitions between postures.

  13. Somalic Flow Yoga: A practice that incorporates movements inspired by Somali dance, promoting strength, flexibility, and community.



Our place to be: Bamboo Yoga Retreat at Polem Beach


First of all let’s highlight Susanne‘s team. We felt so incredibly welcomed and everyone took care of us so much. If we slept longer, missing the tea time before the meditation started, we got asked where we have been in case we did not know about the two tea times before the yoga sessions start. We love it :) The huts were so incredibly nice and we loved our outdoor bathroom with the palm trees around.
