Once forbidden, but never forgotten: 紫禁城

The Forbidden City in Beijing: An impressive palace complex, that was built from 1406 to 1420, initiated by Jongle, the third Ming emperor. Similar to other grandiose historical constructions, for example the Taj Mahal in Agra, more than 1 million slaves and additional 100 000 artisans should have been involved in the construction.

Many hours can be spent to discover the small architectural and historical details of this amazing place, that has been declared as UNESCO world heritage site in 1987. Until 1911 the Ming and Qing dynasties inhabited the Forbidden City complex, so you can follow the smell of history during your tour through. Unique: 720 000m² with 890 palaces and 8886 rooms, the Forbidden City in Beijing.
